Police release body cam footage of officer involved shooting that killed law student - FOX 29

HOUSTON - The family of a man shot and killed by Houston Police officers rallied Thursday night.
They’re promising to file a federal lawsuit against the agency for the deadly shooting.
Police recently released body camera footage of the incident saying it's clear that Charion Lockett fired first.
But his family says he didn't, and that the clips don't back up their story.
27-year-old Charion Lockett’s loved ones stood united outside HPD headquarters vowing they’ll file a federal lawsuit against this police agency, which ended Locketts life.

“My son’s routine every day. He woke up, he exercised and he went back inside and studied for the L-SAT test. That’s what he did every day. That’s why he was in the driveway that morning," said Shanetta Lewis, mother.
His mother says on Monday February 7, they received a call from law enforcement saying a warrant for Lockett's arrest on an aggravated robbery charge had been issued.
Mom and son planned to speak with an attorney to fight the case.
An hour later without warning , officers descended on Oak West Drive.
"Nobody nobody presented him with a warrant. And to drive by and shoot him? And don’t say anything? And shoot him down like an animal in his front yard?," said Lewis.

“As officers approached the residence, Mr. Lockett was sitting inside his vehicle in the driveway," said Assistant Chief Belinda Null, Houston Police Department.
In a video released online today absent the ability of reporters to ask questions HPD says within four minutes of that gunfire, officers rendered medical aid and claim Lockett fired at them first.
"He stepped out and began firing upon officers as he moved towards his front door. Four officers responded by discharging their duty weapons towards the suspect, striking him," said Asst. Chief Null.
Fair warning Here’s that moment on Officer Inocencios body worn camera in its entirety.
“This community is here to tell the world that this young man was loved. And the city has a fight on its hand. And we will fight to the bitter end," said Taft Foley, family attorney.
Attorneys for Lockett’s family says the footage shows police never identified themselves.

“Oh by the way, in all of those videos, about 11 that we saw, not one single officer said Houston Police. Not one of them," said Randall Kallinen, family attorney.
“He was something to us. He mattered to us, not just because he was black because he was ours. I can’t even process this situation. I can’t process it," said Tonetta Bullard, cousin.
