Poll: Iowans split over mask mandate law - KCCI Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa —
Monday marks two weeks since a federal judge temporarily blocked the Iowa law banning mask mandates in schools.
Since then, a number of Iowa school districts have issued mask mandates for students and staff.
There's still uncertainty surrounding how long they could last. The ACLU had initially asked for a 14-day injunction. That would have ended Monday. However, a federal court clerk told KCCI the injunction will last until a judge rules that there is enough evidence to proceed in the case.
A new poll is giving insight into how Iowans feel about the law. The latest Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll shows Iowans are split down the middle.
According to the poll, 50% of those surveyed oppose it and 47% are in favor. The remaining 3% say they're unsure.
The poll was conducted Sept. 12-15, 2021, for the Des Moines Register and Mediacom by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines. It is based on telephone interviews with 805 Iowans ages 18 or older.
