Portland mayor, law enforcement officials to address recent gun violence - KATU

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and law enforcement officials are expected to speak Tuesday morning on gun violence in Portland.

Portland police said they responded to at least 10 shootings between Thursday and Monday.

Three of those shootings were deadly.

The first deadly shooting of the period happened on Saturday night in the Southwest Hills. Police were called to the 900 block of Southwest Broadway at 6:45 p.m.

Police say people in the area were reporting someone nearby was shooting a gun. Police told people in the area to shelter in place. Then, at some point during the investigation, Portland police say two officers fire their guns, killing a person.

The second shooting happened about an hour later across the city. Portland police say six people were shot during a confrontation between protesters and a homeowner. One woman died. Police have yet to identify anyone involved.

The third deadly shooting happened Sunday night around 10:40 p.m. Police say a family was shot while in a car.
