Proposed Law Change Would Permit Fresh Ice Cream in Cones or Cups Served From Trucks in Basking Ridge - TAPinto.net
BERNARDS TWP., NJ - You scream, your kids scream - but soon, if the Bernards Township Committee approves a proposed ordinance change discussed at this week's Township Committee meeting, all you'll have to do is ask if you want to order a freshly prepared ice cream cone outdoors in Basking Ridge.
When the Bernards Township Committee introduced the suggested change to its “Sales of Goods and Services” Section 12.1(d) “Sale of Ice Cream” ordinance, Deputy Mayor Andrew McNally explained that the township wants to start updating some old laws.
The current version of the law says that ice cream may be only be sold or offered for sale "in sealed containers in or from any vehicle from the street, highway or any other public place" in Basking Ridge.
Right now, any ice cream vendors and trucks around town are only selling prepackaged ice cream treats, officials say. The current ice cream law prohibits vendors that, for example, sell and serve fresh soft ice cream in cones or cups, noted Township Clerk Rhonda Pisano.
The new version of the law would also allow the "filling of individual containers with ice cream" by vendors "in accordance with any state regulations governing the health of such sales."
McNally said that the proposal will be further discussed when a final version of the revised ordinance comes up for a final reading and final vote for adoption by the Township Committee.
The committee's final vote on the ordinance change is expected to take place at its next meeting, scheduled for 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at town hall at 1 Collyer Lane in Basking Ridge.
