Readers respond: Obey laws before changing them - OregonLive

I find odd that Alsea School District Superintendent Marc Thielman publicly advocates ignoring state law while simultaneously running to be our state’s next governor (“Benton County school district drops mask mandate; state responds by withholding federal relief funds,” Jan. 26). I have visited his website, and although I do not agree with many of his stances, he is clearly a caring and dedicated citizen – and I credit him for getting involved to change a system he doesn’t like. But meanwhile, he must uphold the rule of law established by those already elected to make law. If we each get to pick and choose which laws we will honor, there’s no point in having laws.
