Rebecca Stern Is Firm, Fair And Applies The Law Equally - The Chattanoogan
A Criminal Court Judge needs to be firm, fair and to apply the law equally without fear or favor. Luckily for the citizens of Hamilton County, these are qualities Rebecca Stern exhibited on the bench for over 17 years, before she retired in 2015. That’s why I’m supporting her to be the next Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge, Div. III.
While I’m an attorney, I’m also Rebecca’s husband, which precludes me from practicing in front of her. However, I cannot tell you the number of times we’ve been out to dinner or on some other outing, when a former defendant she previously had incarcerated or ordered to residential drug treatment has approached and thanked her for saving his or her life.
I can attest, personally, that Rebecca approaches this position with all the seriousness it demands. During her last service as Judge, she gained the reputation as someone who was fair, tough but compassionate, measured in temper and respectful of all who came before her. Additionally, I know she really enjoyed meeting and talking with jury panels and answering questions about the legal system in general.
Rebecca also has exhibited great foresight, in that she was instrumental in starting and presiding over the Hamilton County Drug Court during her previous terms on the bench, which offered alternative sentencing coupled with long-term inpatient treatment for non-violent drug offenders. This not only has proven successful at reducing recidivism among the Drug Court defendants, but has it also helped these defendants find gainful employment, earn colleges degrees and even start their own businesses.
Rebecca is very passionate about the law and public service. She has served Hamilton County as both a prosecutor and a judge. She not only successfully prosecuted a number of dangerous sex offenders as the County’s Child Abuse Prosecutor, she won the first life-without-parole capital murder jury verdict in County history. Rebecca will bring proven leadership to the bench. So, please join me in voting for Rebecca Stern for Criminal Court Judge, Div. III.
