A multifaceted network of 3D virtual worlds known as the metaverse has long been viewed as a place for social connection, but many are now also envisioning it as a space where professional services can thrive.

Now that Washington, D.C.-based Arent Fox has become the first major law firm to buy a digital plot of land and open a virtual office in the metaverse, a host of other professionals and corporations are likely to follow suit.
