Rockland police remind public of Good Samaritan Law - Courier-Gazette & Camden Herald
Rockland Maine Fire and Emergency Medical Services departments responded early Wednesday morning to a report of an overdose.
Rockland Police were first on the scene March 16, quickly assessed the situation, and administered Narcan. The person was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and is expected to recover.
“It is a good time to remind people of the Good Samaritan Law and the importance of calling 9-1-1 quickly in the case of a suspected overdose,” Rockland police stated on its Facebook page.
The law allows people to report drug overdoses without fear of being charged for possessing drugs or paraphernalia.
The exact drug/cause of the overdose is not known at this time but evidence on the scene suggests that it may be likened to a prescription (or possibly fake prescription) pill. It is important to remember that it is not uncommon for illicit drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine or fake prescriptions pills to contain lethal doses of Fentanyl.
