Several Lowcountry law enforcement agencies seeing increase in applicants - Live 5 News WCSC
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Law enforcement agencies around the Lowcountry say they are seeing an increase in applicants.
The agencies say many of the new applicants are coming from the North Charleston Police Department.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office says, beginning next week, they will be fully staffed, saying they were able to hire several officers from North Charleston.
Officials with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office were not able to say how many officers had been hired.
The Goose Creek Police Department says two officers from the North Charleston Police Department are currently in the department’s hiring process.
Moncks Corner Police say they have received inquires from North Charleston Police Department officers, but say no one has been hired.
In Summerville, the Summerville Police Department says they have received 14 applications from North Charleston Police officers and have hired two. Summerville Police says they have several others going through the application process.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office also says they have also received several applications and expect to be operating at or near full strength soon.
“I can confirm the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office has accepted several applications in the last couple of weeks,” Sheriff L.C. Knight said. “These are in process and we cannot comment further about those applicants. I do expect soon to be operating at, or very nearly at, full strength”.
The increase of applicants comes on the day the City of North Charleston’s requirement for all workers to be partially vaccinated goes into effect.
