Sheriff's Office Celebrates January Promotions from Law Enforcement and Correctional Divisions - TAPinto.net
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ - Somerset County Sheriff Darrin J. Russo held a swearing-in ceremony at the end of January for newly promoted supervisors from the Law Enforcement and Correctional Divisions.
Among those sworn in was new Capt. Lorenzo Moye Sr., the first African American to be promoted to the rank of correctional police captain in the past 30 years.
Moye is a lifelong resident of Somerset County, and served in the U.S. Army with the 2nd Armor Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and was honorably discharged. He joined the New Jersey National Guard 50th Military Police Company, and, in 1985, he was hired as a correctional officer with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.
Over the past 36 years, he has been promoted to corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and now captain. Moye has also served as member of the Somerset County Emergency Response Team as a crisis negotiator for 20 years.
Also promoted in the correctional division personnel was Capt. Donald Essig, who began his career in 1991, and was promoted to corporal in 2004, sergeant in 2009, lieutenant in 2018 and captain in 2022. Essig is the commander of the Special Response Team and Correctional Response Team, and is a firearms instructor.
Lt. Suzanne De Leo has been with the Sheriff’s Office-Corrections Division for 22 years, and began her career with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office in November 1999. She was promoted as the first female sergeant and the first female lieutenant in the history of the Somerset County Jail, and is currently a field training officer for all new hires and newly promoted supervisors.
Lt. Gregory Quintero has been with the corrections division for 21 years, and is currently division training supervisor, overseeing all aspects of training conducted for uniform staff, civilian staff, volunteers, contractors and assisting with correctional police recruit training. He is currently the deputy commander of the Correctional Response Team, and is also the co-coordinator for the division’s Prison Rape Elimination Act Committee, which oversees the implementation of the PREA standards.
Lt. Vincent Carrube was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, and has served 23 years with the Sheriff’s Office Correctional Division. He has worked as a sergeant and deputy commander of Special Response Team and Correctional Response Team, and is also on the Somerset SWAT Team, and is an agency firearms instructor.
Sgt. James Bellamy began is career in corrections in 2012, at the Hunterdon County Jail, and, after transferring to the Somerset County Jail in 2015, he became a member of the National Association of Field Training Officers in 2019.
Sgt. John Reznik began his career with Somerset County Communications in 2001, and then transferred to the Somerset County Sheriff Department Jail Division in 2002.
Sgt. Clarence Anthony started his career at the Somerset County Jail in 2000, and, in 2018, he was promoted to the rank of corporal.
Sgt. Jason Goodman began his career as a Somerset County 911 operator for county communications in March 2001, and he graduated from the Somerset County Police Academy in June 2003. In November 2018, he was promoted to corporal and became an agency firearms instructor.
Sgt. John Pineiro began with the Somerset County Correctional Division in January 2003, and is a Marine Corps veteran, deployed to Iraq in 2006 while being employed with the Somerset County Jail.
Cpl. Rob Bobrowski began his career with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, corrections division, in January 1994, and he has served on the Correctional Response Team and as a member of the Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit as an explosive detection handler.
Cpl. Christopher BIzup began his career as a juvenile detention officer at Northampton County, PA, and, in 2013, he became a corrections officer of the Somerset County Jail. In 2014, he attended the Passaic County Police Academy Class 14-44, and graduated with the Class Marksman Award.
In 2019, BIzup received a Life Saving Citation.
Cpl. Ricky Matthews began his career with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, corrections division, in March 2013, and he serves as a vital member of the Bias & Hate Crime Unit, Honor Guard and Gang Unit.
Cpl. Andres Romero, received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps, and has seven years of service with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Division. Romero is a member of the Correctional Response Team, Special Response Team and Somerset County SWAT Team.
On the Law Enforcement Division side, there were a number of promotions as well.
Lt. Christopher Omelio is a 16-year police veteran who worked for the Sheriff’s Office Administration Division as a sergeant overseeing all in-service and mandatory agency training. Previously, he served as a supervisor for court operations, assisting with security of the criminal, civil and family divisions of the Somerset County Superior Courthouse.
Sgt. Joseph Bially started his law enforcement career as a corrections officer at the Somerset County Jail, and, in 2000, he transferred over to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and graduated from the Somerset County Police Academy.
He was initially assigned to the Operations Division, and, in January 2019, was assigned to the Administrative Division, where he also was assigned to prepare new recruits for the police academy.
Sgt. Antoinette Hartman began her law enforcement career with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office in April 2005, and was assigned to the Operations Division. After nine years, she was reassigned to the Detective Bureau, and she will now be overseeing the Sheriff’s Office Accreditation Program.
“It’s my pleasure to swear in these new supervisors, all who work tirelessly around the clock, going above and beyond all throughout their careers to do what’s right, while serving the Somerset County community,” Russo said in the release. “We are all very proud of them.”
