"Small States, Multilateralism and International Law" - Informal High-Level Roundtable - UN Web TV
The event has not yet started. Please verify the time and come back later.
International relations in the modern era are underpinned by a network of multilateral institutions and international legal instruments, with the United Nations and fundamental principles of the UN Charter on non-resort to force, peaceful settlement of disputes and non-interference in a country's internal affairs at the core. Small States, in particular, depend on this system to safeguard their sovereignty and independence and to advance and defend other critical interests.
The objective of the meeting is to examine how multilateralism, adherence to international law and the upholding of the rule of law at the international level can be strengthened.
Speakers will focus on how small states are uniquely positioned to contribute and what Small States can proactively do to support efforts to strengthen and transform the rule-based multilateral system and address any gaps.
The event will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore and will be organized by the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations. Participation will be open to all Member and Observer States of the United Nations.
Opening Remarks: H.E. Abdulla Shahid President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly
Speakers: H.E. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore and Chair of the Forum of Small States, H.E. Kamina Johnson Smith Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, H.E. Abdul Koroma Former International Court of Justice Judge.
