OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State House of Representatives has passed a measure that would prohibit guns and other weapons at ballot-counting sites and school board meetings.

Openly carried firearms would also be banned at local government meetings and election-related facilities like county election offices.

Violators could lose their concealed-carry permit for three years, face a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.

A person must knowingly violate the law for it to apply.

The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
