STATE POLICE TO FOCUS ON ENFORCEMENT OF “MOVE OVER LAW” - wccsradio.com
State police from the Indiana and Kiski Valley barracks will take part in an enforcement initiative focusing on the state’s Move Over law.
The initiative is part of an effort to raise awareness to the dangers that first responders face while responding to incidents on highways. The Move Over law, sometimes called the Steer Clear law, requires that drivers approaching emergency response areas to pass the scene in a lane not adjacent to the emergency response area, if possible, or slowing down if passing in a non-adjacent lane is not possible, illegal or unsafe. Troopers from the Indiana barracks will be adopting a “zero tolerance” policy for drivers who fail to obey the Move Over law.
Troopers say they will be actively watching out for aggressive, distracted, and intoxicated drivers, including texting while driving, using a handheld device, using hearing-impairment devices, driving recklessly or carelessly or using an image display device while driving.
