PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - This has already been a busy year for Bay County emergency personnel dealing with the recent wildfires, tornadoes, and spring break chaos. Now, the community is continuing to show their appreciation.

Arnold High School Food For Thought Service Project students and Tapestry Park neighbors took action to help local first responders. Thursday night, the two groups brought meals to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Substation in Promenade Mall in Panama City Beach. Tapestry Park residents say it’s important to say thank you to the first responders because of how much stress they’ve been through.

“Especially with what we’ve seen over Spring Break, how many people were involved in recovering all the guns and all the arrests and they have to be exhausted, so we thought we would give back to them,” Tapestry Park resident Misty Whitt said.

Whitt said in a post in the Tapestry Park Facebook group looking for donations of food, money, or gift cards. She said they raised more than $700 from neighbors to buy food and energy drinks for first responders. Food For Thought students also made a $200 gift card donation. Officials said this is an “amazing” gesture by the community saying thank you to them.

“Well, we have to say thank you as well. Thank you for the support and feeding us and just being there for us and saying thank you,” Bay County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Chad King said.

The Tapestry Park neighborhood activities committee also organized the neighborhood children to create cards to distribute to the deputies. They hope these efforts and the spirit of recognizing those who work so hard to help us continue throughout the year.
