Tennessee Restricted Teaching About Race. One Year Later, Law Sits Mostly Unused - The Wall Street Journal
Last year, debate over what to teach in Tennessee schools made school board meetings last for hours with parents yelling and, in some cases, police present. The issue escalated to the state legislature, which passed a law—among the first of its kind in the nation—designed to rein in teaching on race and gender and to give parents more say in school curricula.
A year later, school board meetings have quieted down, and the law has mostly sat unused. Only one complaint over teaching has been filed with any school district statewide under the new law, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of the districts.
