The Recorder - Town not above the law - The Recorder
In late summer in 2011, a landowner on Boyden Road clear cut wetlands for development. They then had the good fortune of the Conway Highway Department to dump in eight 5 to 7 yard truck loads of fill, approximately 50 yards. I immediately reported this to members of the Conway Conservation Committee, but the commission took no action. All they said to me was that it was wrong. It should not have happened and the town should have never done this.
The Highway Department and landowner failed to contact the Conservation Commission as required by law. The Conservation Commission has no record of this violation. To the voters, resident and non-resident landowners of the town of Conway you should be very concerned. A very serious double standard exists.
The landowner and the town of Conway are not above the law. Time does not make a wrong right. Remove this soil – ten years is long enough.
