Publicly traded companies headquartered in California have added record numbers of women to their boards in the three years since the state set gender quotas.

The number of board seats held by women more than doubled to 1,959 in 2021 from 782 in 2018, representing a dramatic shift in who gets a seat at the boardroom table, new research found.
