TENNESSEE — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award an estimated $59.0 million to Tennessee’s 68 airports from funding made available by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a release said.
The money is to be used for runways, taxiways, safety and sustainability projects, as well as terminal, airport-transit connections and roadway projects.
Tennessee airports will receive five annual rounds of funding, said the release.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has given us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build safer and more sustainable airports that connect individuals to jobs and communities to the world,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
“With this new funding, urban, regional and rural airports across the country now can get to work on projects that have waited for years, modernizing their infrastructure and building a better America,” he said.
The airports can submit the plans they would use the funding for an FAA review in the coming weeks.
According to the release, the FAA encourages airports to prioritize projects that increase airport safety, equity and sustainability.
The following commercial airports in Tennessee are estimated to receive funding during the first year of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law:
- Tri-Cities in Bristol/Johnson/Kingsport: $2,071,492
- Lovell Field in Chattanooga: $3,807,762
- McGhee Tyson in Knoxville: $5,198,165
- Memphis International in Memphis: $17,290,889
- Nashville International in Nashville: $17,878,867
