Town of Ithaca schedules public hearing on controversial short-term rental law proposal - fingerlakes1.com
The Ithaca Town Board has scheduled a second public hearing for Wednesday on a proposed short-term rental law.
Tompkins Weekly reports a vote was to have been taken at the last board meeting, but in the wake of considerable public opposition, the vote was cancelled and a second hearing scheduled. The law would cover properties rented for fewer than 30 days. Many of those are rented through Airbnb or VRBO. One provision of the law would require the people renting out the units to live in then or on an adjacent property.
Deputy Town Supervisor Bill Goodman says there’s a shortage of traditional lodging on Cayuga Lake, leading many property owners to rent their lakefront property.
The public hearing will be Wednesday at 11AM.
