TPD officer recognized by National Law Enforcement Officer Hall of Fame - WTVG
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A Toledo Police officer was recognized by a national organization honoring law enforcement.
Law enforcement officials from across the country gathered in Maumee on Thursday for a National Law Enforcement Hall of Fame induction ceremony. TPD officer Louie Espinosa was awarded the Founders Award.
“What they do, what they sacrifice, what their families sacrifice. It deserves to be recognized, not only by us, by the entire community,” said Megan Stockburger, one of the founders of the National Law Enforcement Hall of Fame. “You hear a lot of the negative and the positive isn’t showcased and that’s why we started this so we can showcase the positive.”
Since the ceremony was created here in Northwest Ohio, the creators think it’s important to recognize that.
“It’s important to honor the area where this started. So Louie Espinosa is getting this award, the founder’s award. And it will continue here on out no matter where we land. He just completely embodies why we started this,” Stockburger said.
Espinosa has worked in law enforcement for over 30 years and is retiring. He says receiving this award and being recognized is a nice way to go out.
“I work every day with heroes. I don’t consider myself any different than them. I’ve been fortunate to be out in good positions. I think I’m a hard worker and I just come to work every day and put my head down and do what I’m supposed to,” says Espinosa. “Like most police officers we don’t look for the recognition. We don’t take the job for that. As I come to the end of my career now, and I’m reflecting back it’s nice to be noticed and recognized for your effort.”
