Tucker Carlson rips Jen Psaki’s ‘medical guidance’ on Alabama trans youth law - AL.com

After Jen Psaki criticized Alabama’s new trans youth laws as doing harm to children, Fox News host Tucker Carlson slammed the White House press secretary’s “medical guidance,” suggesting the gender-affirming care criminalized by the new law is “ghoulish and dangerous and horrifying.”

“Here’s the medical guidance we just got from Jen Psaki: slicing off a child’s sex organs , preventing a 12-year-old from going through puberty, that’s not ghoulish and dangerous and horrifying, no, its not. It’s quote ‘gender-affirming health care,’” Carlson said during his Fox News show Friday night. “Indeed, its now what we’re calling a ‘best practice.’”

Carlson was responding to Psaki’s press briefing on Thursday, where she said the White House and the federal government were putting Alabama on notice in response to the legislature passing the bills, which Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law on Friday.

“In Alabama, instead of focusing on critical kitchen-table issues like the economy, COVID, or addressing the country’s mental health crisis,” Psaki said. “Republican lawmakers are currently debating legislation that, among many things, would target trans youth with tactics that threatens to put pediatricians in prison if they provide medically necessary, lifesaving healthcare for the kids they serve.”

In attacking the White House’s position on the gender-affirming care criminalized by the Alabama law, Carlson cited a study on the long-term effects of puberty blockers by U.K. researchers that he said found children between the ages of 12 and 15 who underwent the treatment were far more likely to report wanting to hurt or kill themselves, had stunted growth, weaker bones and measurably lower IQs. But the study cited by Carlson did not support those claims.

“These are not minor side effects, these are tragedies,” Carlson said. “If you cared about children, you’d care very much about these results. But the White House doesn’t care.”
