Two small Portland law firms join forces in merger - Mainebiz

Two small Portland law firms with expertise in family law and other areas have merged to become a slightly bigger boutique, the firms announced this week.

MittelAsen LLC and Miller Law & Mediation said they have joined forces to become MillerAsen PA, an eight-attorney firm with a downtown office at 66 Pearl St., Suite 200, next to the Cumberland County Courthouse.

The attorneys advise clients in fields including divorce and post-divorce, high-asset divorce, mediation, estate planning, probate, business formation and corporate law.

“The opportunity to combine my firm with MittelAsen is something I would only have dreamed about when I first started practicing family law over 20 years ago," said Catherine Miller, the founder of Miller Law & Mediation who now serves as MillerAsen's managing partner.

"Seeing us double our size coming into 2022 and expand our services is very exciting. We hope to share our passion with our current and future clients."

Other attorneys at the new MillerAsen are: Michael Asen, Diane Dusini, Susan Bixby, Jessica Govind, Alex Chaiken, Whitney Lallas and Nick Galanin.

The merger comes in the same week that a merger between Portland-based Verrill, one of Maine's largest law firms, and Boston-based firm Rackemann, Simon & Brewster was set to take effect. That merger was announced in late December.

Legal practices in Maine of fewer than 10 attorneys represented more than half (56.6%) of registered Maine law firms in 2018, according to the last annual report of the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar.
