[UPDATE 10:38 pm] Law Enforcement Responding to Multiple People Reporting Shots Fired, Possible 'Firefight' near Redwood Valley Cannabis Grow – Redheaded Blackbelt - Redheaded Blackbelt

Scanner traffic starting at approximately 9:30 p.m. indicated that law enforcement is responding to the 2500 block of Black Bart Drive near Redwood Valley in Mendocino County after receiving seven reports of shots fired and one report of a “firefight going on in the roadway.”

One of the reporting parties told dispatch that she believes “something bad is going on.” The dispatcher relayed to responding units the shots are reportedly emanating from a cannabis grow.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has requested California Highway Patrol assist in the situation and will be staging near the scene.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

UPDATE 10:09 p.m.: Law enforcement is actively establishing perimeter control on the scene. One group of officers is checking in with one of the reporting parties in close proximity to the property the shots were thought to originate.

UPDATE 10:38 p.m.: Several of the units at the scene are being released from the reported scene of where the “shots” were reported. In addition, there has been at least one report that the “shots” may have been firecrackers.

UPDATE 10:51 p.m.: Law enforcement is actively working to make contact with residents of 2500 Black Bart West drive, the property reported to be the source of the gunfire. They are attempting a Public Address system callout to make contact with the occupants of the address.

UPDATE Saturday: Last night, a significant law enforcement response was prompted when dispatch received multiple reports of gunfire near the 2000 block of Black Bart West in Redwood Valley. One caller even reported that a “firefight” was occurring.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten told us after deputies arrived they “checked the area where we believe it occurred” and found “no evidence of any gun battle or shooting scene.”

Captain Van Patten confirmed the area deputies inspected was a cannabis grow and no one was found at the scene.

Scanner reports from last night indicated that the calls prompted both MCSO deputies and California Highway Patrol to respond to the scene where they established perimeter control to assess the situation.
