[UPDATE 11:40 pm] Law Enforcement Requesting Hwy 101 Near Arcata Be Shut Down After Vehicle Fire and Explosion – Redheaded Blackbelt - Redheaded Blackbelt

A vehicle fire that began about 11:10 p.m. near the South G became an explosion according to law enforcement officer speaking over the scanner.

The officer requested Hwy 101 be shut down for a fully involved pickup truck.

As of 11:16 p.m., Caltrans QuickMap is not showing traffic slowing in the area.

There has been no request for an ambulance which indicates the occupants exited the vehicle.

As of 11:18 p.m., the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page shows Hwy 101 still open but the number 2 northbound lane has been shutdown.
