TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Authorities in Arizona are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who they say assaulted two law enforcement officers on Friday, April 22.
The man was last seen fleeing a collision with an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper near Milepost 296 that was pursuing him westbound on I-10.
During the pursuit, the driver of the suspect vehicle slammed on the brakes and the trooper rammed the back of the car, totaling the police car.
The trooper was not injured.
Prior to the DPS pursuit, a Huachuca City Police officer encountered the suspect in the parking lot of the city’s Circle K and discovered the man was transporting undocumented immigrants.
The man resisted arrest and a struggle ensued before the man got into a red Dodge Durango with fake license plates and sped north on SR 90.
Police chased the man but ended the pursuit once he accelerated to over 100 mph, at one point crossing into oncoming traffic lanes.
Cochise County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the incident, and anyone with information is asked to call them at 520-432-9500. DPS is conducting a parallel investigation.
