UPDATE: Law enforcement responds to apparent standoff in Austin - KTTC
AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- Thursday evening law enforcement shared with KTTC a mental health situation is to blame for a heavy police presence in central Austin. They say it involves an individual showing multiple knives and a hammer.
The Austin Police Department says officers used every “less lethal” tool to de-escalate the situation. They tell us none were successful. As of 6 p.m. Friday the threat to the public has declined, and APD is rolling back their presence but will keep an officer in the neighborhood to monitor the situation.
This is in the 1200 block of 4th Ave. NW in Austin.
