Video shows injured deer apparently shot at point-blank range by law enforcement officer on Staten Island - SILive.com
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A law enforcement officer can be seen apparently shooting and killing an injured deer at point-blank range outside a home in Richmond Wednesday in a video obtained by the Advance/SILive.com
A video clip captured by a resident who lives on McCully Avenue shows an NYPD squad car and a New York State trooper’s vehicle parked outside the home. An officer can be seen approaching the animal in the video.
Chris Centore, who lives on the street, said he and his neighbor noticed the deer come out of a wooded area nearby.
“It went right by my house, it looked like it was bleeding out of its mouth and had other injuries,” he said.
He added that seeing an injured deer in the area is not common.
NYPD were the first on the scene, and then a state trooper arrived -- the trooper then walked up to the injured animal and shot it, according to Centore. In the video, it appears that one shot is fired.
According to a New York State Police spokesperson, at approximately 5 p.m., NYPD requested state police to respond to the area of 65 McCully Ave. on Staten Island to dispatch an injured deer. The injured deer was dispatched with one round, and the city Department of Sanitation was then contacted to remove the deer carcass, the spokesperson added.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed a 911 call was made at 4:02 p.m. for a deer in distress on a lawn at McCully Avenue and St. Andrews Road, but would not comment on the incident.
