Waller law firm adds Doug Sloan, Jon Cooper, Quan Poole to real estate and government relations team - Nashville Business Journal - Nashville Business Journal
The biggest law firm in Nashville has bolstered its real estate and government relations team with a trio of lawyers with extensive Metro experience.
Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis LLP announced the hires of Doug Sloan, Jon Cooper and Quan Poole on Tuesday. The firm touted the group's collective 45 years of Metro work and said they'll focus particularly on land use and zoning, corporate relocations and expansions, and public-private partnerships.
Sloan is a former executive director of Metro's Planning Department and former chief legal officer at the Metro Nashville Airport Authority. Cooper (who's not related to Mayor John Cooper) served as legal counsel to Metro Council for almost a decade, in two stints; in-between, he ran Metro's law department for four years. Poole was an assistant attorney at Metro from 2017 to 2020.

Waller plucked all three from the Nashville office of Spencer Fane LLP, formerly Bone McAllester Norton PLLC. It's a move that reflects the continued surge in the region's real estate industry and also a sign of the ever-increasing competition on the city's legal landscape.
Other firms also have boosted their real estate bona fides in recent months: Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP added Erica Garrison (formerly of Waller) at the end of last year, and Thompson Burton PLLC recruited Jon Michael, who capped a 15-year legal career with Metro as the city's zoning administrator. K&L Gates, a global law firm, opened a Nashville outpost last year that now has about 40 lawyers, including some focused on construction litigation.
Waller ranks as the largest law firm in Nashville based on headcount, with 235 local attorneys and 414 total local employees as of the start of 2021. Matt Burnstein chairs the firm; James Weaver leads its government relations practice.
