Watered-down Miya's Law advances in Florida House - Orlando Sentinel
TALLAHASSEE — A Florida House committee on Thursday advanced a stripped-down version of a bill designed to make apartment complexes safer following the murder of Orlando college student Miya Marcano, deleting parts of a measure that her family thinks would help avoid a similar tragedy in the future.
Even though legislators removed a requirement that landlords conduct a national background check on apartment employees, supporters are optimistic they will get that part restored before a final vote.
