Where Giants' farm system lands in Keith Law's 2022 rankings - NBC Sports Bay Area
oth the present and the future are very bright for the Giants.
In addition to the current major league roster that won a franchise-best 107 games in 2021, the organization's farm system is amongst the best in baseball.
The Athletic's Keith Law released his yearly ranking of MLB's 30 farm systems, where the Giants were ranked ninth for the second year in a row.
Rounding out the eight spots ahead of San Francisco are the Los Angeles Dodgers (1), Seattle Mariners (2), Arizona Diamondbacks (3), Tampa Bay Rays (4), Toronto Blue Jays (5), Pittsburgh Pirates (6), Kansas City Royals (7) and Cleveland Guardians (8).
"The Giants have done an unbelievable job flipping this system on its head," Law writes. "Moving away from lower-ceiling guys to better risk-reward calculations in both the draft and on the international side, led by their 2018 group that included Marco Luciano, Luis Matos and Jairo Pomares. The system improved enough that they could trade two top-20 prospects for Kris Bryant and not really miss a beat. We haven’t seen the changes they’ve executed at the major-league level trickle down to the minors yet, as they have a number of prospects who might benefit from swing alterations or the like to unlock more power or improve command."
Highlighted by No. 1 overall prospect, shortstop Marco Luciano, the Giants farm system is laden with exciting young talent, including outfielder Luis Matos, who has quickly established himself as a potential star at the major league level.
Entering the 2022 season, the Giants have five players ranked in Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects, including Luciano, Matos, catcher Joey Bart, outfielder Heliot Ramos and pitcher Kyle Harrison.
Another strong showing from the Giants' future stars this season will only propel the organization further up the rankings.
