Will a New Law Make the Price of Bacon Skyrocket in the HV? - wpdh.com
I just heard something on the news that made me actually say “oh no” out loud. I just caught the tail end of the report, but the anchor was talking about the price of bacon. All pork, actually, but bacon is the big one that even vegetarians have a hard time staying away from. Anyway, they said the price of pork is going to go up even more than it already has.
So, what’s the deal? It seems there is a California law going into effect in early 2022 that is going to make it harder to keep as many pigs. The new law says that each pig has to have at least 24 square feet of space. And you can’t keep them in those stalls anymore. So, it’s much better for the pigs and I’m all about being more kind to animals even if they are being raised for food.
Then I thought to myself, why would a law that is only going into effect in one state going to have an impact on those of us here in New York? I figured the only way to get to the bottom of this is to go online and google the whole thing.
Here’s the good news. According to CNN, the new law will probably only cost each California resident about 8 dollars more per year. And in states outside of California, the impact will be even less. It looks as if the new California law isn’t going to hurt the Hudson Valley too much, but even if it did, 8 dollars a year is a small price to pay to give a pig a better life for as long as he’s here.

Hudson Valley Restaurants With the Most Critical Violations in 2021
Critical violations are those that can cause immediate harm to consumers such as undercooked food and improper storage of ingredients. Other violations like inadequate handwashing facilities or dirty conditions are noted as non-critical violations.
The ten restaurants below all received four or more critical violations during their latest inspection of 2021. In some cases, the restaurants were given the opportunity to correct the violations by inspectors and have done so. Just because a restaurant is on this list doesn't mean that they are currently in violation of the health code. However, the Board of Health does think it's important to be armed with information on how seriously a restaurant takes kitchen cleanliness, food safety and other important rules that affect the food you feed your family.

Pot
Recreational marijuana is now a thing in New York, but is it already in effect? Can we carry a bag of weed? Yes we can. According to the new laws, we can carry and transport up to 3 ounces of pot and 24 grams of cannabis concentrate.
You can carry a gun, but you have to have a license (which also serves as a permit) to carry. According to gunlawsuits.org, you have to be at least 21 to apply for a permit, and there are several laws that govern gun possession. So, if you plan to carry a gun, make sure you've done your homework , because you could land in big trouble.
It all depends. It is legal to carry a legal knife. But there are lots of illegal knives that will get you in trouble. Knifeup.com says that switchblades, pilum ballistic knives, cane swords and metal knuckle knives are all ILLEGAL. You CAN have a switchblade for hunting, fishing and trapping, but you have to have a valid hunting and/or fishing license. It is legal to own and carry a gravity knife.
Pepperspraystore.com says that it is legal to carry and use pepper spray in New York for self defense, but the canister must be pocket sized and the user must be 18 or older with no felonies or assaults on record.
If the drugs are prescribed to you, then it is legal. According to newyorklawyers.org, if the drugs are prescribed to someone else it is a crime, but there are some exceptions. If you are carrying them for a child or spouse, chances are that you would not be criminally charged.
