Wooster amends city ordinances after annual state law changes - Wooster Daily Record

Wooster City Council

Monday, March 7, meeting

WOOSTER – Certain traffic and misdemeanor ordinances were changed to comply with the updated state laws. The changes come after the state concluded a routine annual review of its laws earlier this year.

Updates range from administrative to traffic and general offenses codes.

Most changes were made to the traffic code, which saw amendments to provisions including private tow-away zones, maximum speed limits, the display of license plates or validation stickers and electric bicycles.

General offense changes included updated penalties for misdemeanors, animal cruelty, littering and railroad vandalism.

Other action at the March 7 Wooster City Council meeting

  • The city will purchase bituminous asphalt for roadway improvements and repairs for $210,000. This is part of the city's plan to get ahead of potholes created by the weather elements of winter.
  • Council authorized the city to advertise for a bid to mow city-owned properties at an estimated cost of $100,000. The contract is split into four segments, so bidders can choose what segment they want to tackle. This means a small contractor can take segment one while a large contractor can take segments two, three and four, said Roger Kobilarcsik, city engineer.
  • Wooster will make use of three grants it received state-sanctioned extensions for following the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020. Three grants were issued in 2019 to support housing activity. The city must use these grants, which total $40,296, by September of this year.
