X-Men's New Era Will Shatter Magneto and Professor X's Secret Law - Screen Rant

Warning: contains spoilers for X-Men: Onslaught Revelation #1!

The X-Men's secret rules are about to be broken, spelling a new era that may see Professor X and Magneto lose their influence over mutantkind. Charles Xavier has always been a man who keeps his own counsel, and that's still true in the Age of Krakoa. The entire mutant race has gathered on the living island of Krakoa, but even the ruling Quiet Council don't know everything about the mutant mastermind who was even willing to orchestrate his own death in service of his cause.

The citizens of Krakoa have learned to synergize Cerebro technology and mutant powers in order to conquer death, and the actions of the mutants responsible for managing this process are governed by the so-called "Resurrection Protocols." But there is one unwritten rule, enforced by Magneto and Charles Xavier with the secret agreement of their old ally Moira MacTaggert: no precognitive telepath can be resurrected. They're deliberately ensuring precogs' names are pushed to the back of the list, and they've even used the promise to resurrect Mystique's wife Destiny as a tool to manipulate the shapeshifting villain - a promise they have no intention of fulfilling. This Machiavellian approach is destined to backfire in Jonathan Hickman's upcoming Inferno series, which threatens to burn Krakoa to the ground as a wounded Mystique lashes out.

Marvel has just dropped a mysterious teaser that seems to point to the post-Inferno comics, one featuring a group led by Nightcrawler - presumably the Legionaries he proposes establishing in the X-Men: Onslaught Revelation one-shot, from Si Spurrier, Bob Quinn, and Java Tartaglia. The Legionaries are an intriguing team, with some clearly chosen because of their powers, while the addition of Juggernaut - who Xavier had refused to allow to live on Krakoa - is particularly unexpected. But one of the most exciting additions is the presence of Blindfold, a precognitive mutant who died during Matthew Rosenberg's X-Men run. If Blindfold is back, then it seems the Resurrection Protocols will soon change. The presence of Juggernaut and Blindfold seems to indicate something profound is about to happen to Krakoa's leadership, and it's even possible Charles Xavier and Magneto will lose their positions of influence.

Reincarnating mutant Moira MacTaggert fears precogs (supposedly) because she believes the mutant race is destined for destruction, and the Age of Krakoa is essentially one last "Hail Mary" to prevent it. Xavier, Magneto, and Moira have been secretly shepherding the citizens of Krakoa according to their own millennia-spanning agenda, and they don't want any precogs to have foresight of this. There are good reasons for this - villains like Mister Sinister have to be tightly controlled to create the conditions the heroes believe they need to save mutantkind - but there have also been hints that Moira is hiding an agenda of her own, and she was even murdered in a past life by the super-precog Destiny. If precogs are soon to be resurrected, then all the secrets of the future could well be laid bare, but it's also a sign that after Inferno, Moira, Professor X, and Magneto will lose their grip on Krakoan society.

At first glance, this teaser simply suggests readers will soon get to meet a creative new team. In reality, it hints at a massive change in the X-Men's status quo as a result of Jonathan Hickman's Inferno, and promises some explosive twists that may expose Professor X and Magneto's scheming and even remove them from power.
