Xiaomi Passes Audit for Europe Data Privacy Law Compliance - MarketWatch

Xiaomi Corp. said it has passed an external audit on its compliance with Europe's strict data privacy law.

The annual review, conducted by San Francisco-based privacy compliance company TrustArc, concluded that Xiaomi's handling of customer personal data meets the requirements of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, the Chinese smartphone maker said in a statement on Thursday.

Xiaomi has been undergoing the yearly audit by TrustArc since 2018, when the European regulation went into effect.

"Xiaomi strives to uphold the highest standards of user privacy policies and practices, particularly for its users in the EU," the company said.

The handset maker's move to highlight its data-protection compliance comes amid heightened privacy scrutiny in China, its home market. Beijing last year passed one of the world's tightest privacy laws, which will curb data collection by technology companies. Authorities further rolled out specific measures on cybersecurity and algorithm use earlier this year.
